Serenity Prayer

May 2, 2017 by Kayce L.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.
(Although known most widely in its abbreviated form above, the entire prayer reads as follows…)
Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next.
Amen.

This wonderful simple prayer has carried me through many a storm in my sobriety. When I was to crazed or depressed to think striaght I repeated this over and over again. Perfect simple prayer for a simple program.

Thanks Kayce for the great post on a great day.
May2 2014 I started my journey at a local hospital suicidal & delirious, from there in handcuffs to another hospital that has a guarded locked room.On to detox for 9 days and a 28 day program. My first AA meeting I accepted that I’am a alcoholic.
The fellowship loved me when I could not love myself. The serenity prayer taught me acceptance, courage & wisdom.
Acceptance is the answer to all my problems. Unless I accept
life on life’s term,I cannot be happy.I need to concentrate
not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on
what needed to be changed in me and my attitudes.
When I focus on what’s good today, I have a good day. If I
focus on a problem, the problem increases.
The Promise’s do come true.Today I hold the serenity prayer close to my heart.Until next time, may God bless you.

This week I celebrated 4 years of sobriety. I do not remember how I found this site at the beginning of my sobriety, but I love it. I downloaded the Big Book to my ipad and read it all the time on here. I love reading the posts too. Thank you to the Admins!

I love the full version of this prayer! I am with my three adult daughters & one grandson. I am experiencing the truth of the serenity prayer~enjoying one moment at a time~accepting hardship as the pathway to peace! Real relationships take that & we can grow & be present as sober people. It is a long road of reconstruction. My reliance is on the God of my understanding completely. Today I walk in the Sunlight of the Spirit. Blessed Be.

  9. Patrick Wade says:

Thank you. I needed to read this.

  10. Nick says:

I have over 1600 days without a drink. Keep coming back, it gets better with time. I still struggle from to time…

  11. Jerry says:

2,047 days today. Pinch me, I must be dreaming!
