The Steps

December 28, 2014 by Kayce L.

Like a loud alarm clock, the First Step brings us to semi-consciousness—although at this point, we may not be sure whether we want to climb out of bed or maybe sleep for just five more minutes. The gentle hand shaking our shoulders as we apply the Second and Third Steps causes us to stand up, stretch, and yawn. We need to wipe the sleep from our eyes to write the Fourth Step and share our Fifth. But as we work the Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Steps, we begin noticing a spring in our step and the start of a smile on our lips. Our spirits sing in the shower as we take the Tenth and Eleventh Steps. And then we practice the Twelfth, leaving the house in search of others to awaken.

The 12 steps will release you from your past resentments. Especially the ones you have with your self. Work them with a sponsor in order and then start them over. I can not stay sober on yesterday’s sobriety.

I always said that it would take a miracle to keep me sober and today I proudly say that I am 449 days into it.

Shane I just wrote a long reply to you question and the website erased my reply by mistake. Please find a sponsor meeting at the end of the next meeting. Where I attend meetings here in Chicago a newcomer usually has a sponsor after the third meeting maximum. I will sponsor you myself if you happen to be in the Chicago area. Ask the chairperson at the next meeting for a sponsor even if you both agree it may be temporary. Working the steps will help you get to the next level as bill says in Bills Story
But my friend sat before me, and he made the point blank declaration that God had done for him what he could not do for himself. His human will had failed. Doctors had pronounced him incurable. Society was about to lock him up. Like myself, he had admitted complete defeat. Then he had, in effect, been raised from the dead, suddenly taken from the scrap heap to a level of life better than the best he had ever known!

Step 7 the most forgotten step, But it’s the step that separates the Men from the Boys or the Ladies from the Girl.
What I remind myself is the prayer notes now willing you should have “All” of me, Grant me strength, to do your bidding. Faith without works is dead.

“My Creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows. Grant me strength, as I go out from here, to do your bidding. Amen.”

Reminding myself I stand tall before my fellows, and when I place Gods will in the forefront of my thoughts my actions are more likely to be thy will. I can’t think my way into right actions, I need to act my way into right thinking.
