Recovery Prayer

January 12, 2018 by Kayce L.

Thank you for keeping me straight yesterday. Please help me stay straight today.

For the next twenty-four hours, I pray for knowledge of your will for me only, and the power to carry that through. Please free my thinking of self-will, self-seeking, dishonesty, and wrong motives. Send me the right thought, word, and action. Show me what my next step should be.

In times of doubt and indecision, please send me your inspiration and guidance. I ask that you might help me work through all my problems, to your glory and honor.

This prayer is a recovery prayer. It can take us through any situation. In the days ahead, we’ll explore the ideas in it. If we pray with prayer, we can trust it has been answered with a yes. Today trust that God will do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. Do your part, work your 12 steps and let God do the rest.

This prayer is based on a section of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.

January 13 is my 4th birthday/Anniversary. I am blessed to be in recovery one day at a time and AA!, it is with gratitude that I have the joy of my family and friends . To have true peace in my life can only be measured by contentment. The Big Book readings, meetings, my God and sponsor help to insure my recovery. Thank you for this place to share my life as it is today.

41 days sober on my 300th attempt. I’ve had this app many years but am just now exploring it. Thank you for sharing this lovely prayer.

Thanks Kayce & Thomas…I have been reading this daily for encouragement. I am facing a new situation! It requires waiting & powerlessness. I went to my Monday Meditation meeting & was asked to lead. I did & that is my God helping me to stay where my feet are & share from my heart. This too shall pass comes to mind. That is my hope. I will open up more if need be in time. I will keep praying this prayer & trust that God is doing his/her part & I will do mine. Focusing on having an attitude of gratitude no matter what! And not picking up that ‘first drink’. May God’s Peace that passes understanding be with us all in 2018!!

Gayle I will be thinking of you today. I love the way we can “circle the wagon” for each other and have the wonderful feeling that we are never alone. We care and are here. Best wishes for a resolution.

    Kayce,
Thanks for sharing this prayer. I needed it this morning. Sometimes, it can be so difficult to pray “ only” for God’s will for us. Even after many years in sobriety I still want to “run the
show” and try to control future events. I need to remember that God is at my side as I face this day.

  6. Gayle R says:

Thanks Janny & Friends…yes, never being alone is wonderful! I am on the other side now & all is resolving! Blessed Be. Prayers continue for all of you. I love being a sober women in recovery!

  7. Jack R says:

Blessed be the God who has given us life!

I too have been reading is almost daily for encouragement. I came across this and thought I would share. Use prayer to ask for awareness and willingness to receive. Use prayer to ask for depth and clarity. Use prayer to asked to become a better channel for higher power. Use prayer to ask for ease and grace in surrender. Use prayer to ask how to pray. Use prayer to ask how to think and act. Use prayer to say thank you. Use prayer. Prayer can be considered cheating because of how much easier it makes the process go. Prayer is of no use when it is not used. Prayer is not only a matter of Believe it is a matter of practice. Prayer is not about someone else telling us how to pray or what to say. It is about communication.

As we walk this journey of recovery together, I have found that it is so important that I keep going to meetings. My home group is such a special group of people; many of whom have become my new circle of lifelong friends. Also, going to meetings gives me a chance to meet newcomers; sponsoring some, simply encouraging others. So, my recovery prayer is not only for my quiet times, but must be lived by going to meetings

    • Janny says:

When I am with people in recovery at a meeting I have the feeling of safety, comfort and compassion. I never walk alone. I love AA!!!!

Today I have 5479 days of Sobriety! 15 Years!!
I went to a Ring Of Fire by the Bay meeting in San Diego 7-8:30! They give sand dollars for tokens! Very unique!
There were 6 celebrants and we totaled 103 years of combined sobriety! I am overflowing with gratitude! Peace & God bless us all!!!

  11. Gayle R says:

Oops! It posted 25th… it is the 24th here!!

  12. Janny says:

Gayle…..isn’t life so much nicer sober? I am so happy for you and all the people who celebrated with you. Sometimes I just can’t believe I am this fortunate to have discovered friends like you and all my other fellow people that are now living the life they dreamed of. Its pretty spectacular,,,but for the grace of God.

  13. Gayle R says:

    Thank-you Janny & Thomas!
