Tolerance Sober

October 5, 2016 by Kayce L.

Practice tolerance within ourselves, our feelings, our reactions, life’s ups and downs, mostly our resistance to change. Practicing healthy, loving tolerance of ourselves helps us learn tolerance for others.

Kayce, that ‘s a great topic. In many ways tolerance is about acceptance. In my home group, we recently lost a long time member. For about five years, he fought his battle against cancer. In the last three months of his life, I knew he was dying, and my friend clearly knew that too. Yet he came to meetings, and shared his recovery stories. My friend did not like the fact that he was dying; yet he accepted it. His acceptance was so powerful, it allowed him to reach that deepest fear that we all share, and with the grace of God, have the courage to face it.

  2. That indeed is an awesome story. Although I am not faced with anything in my life as grave as cancer, I still refrain from sharing about crisis in my life that do not have a relation with alcoholism and or recovery from alcoholism.
I find that after a good meeting in which I was able to share my experience strength and hope, I come out of it stronger and had forgotten about what was bothering me when I walked into the meeting. God bless.

I think every crisis I have in my life large or small has to do with alcoholism. I suffer from a disease of feelings and the effort to avoid feelings! A crisis can always be risky time for me! Meeting attendance, sharing, reading and faith vary me through!

The “Shit Fairy” has departed. Life is good when I try to assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot,and realize how truly blessed I am. I’m not often tolerant to change, but it always seems to work out in HIS time

I’m at the fall convention in buffalo ny! The shit fairy can’t even get in to much positive energy I’m glad he/she has left you!

  6. Dave says:

You have to have acceptance. You don’t have to agree with it or approve. You don’t even have to like it. Just accept it

    Well said Dave thanks everyone

    Can’t get to a meeting.

    Hi Dave
Can you just walk away and regain some peace? Restraint of pen and tongue. I know it’s so very hard, we understand and have all been there. Big hug……I know it stinks..ask for help from HP.

Thank you. I’m trying. I appreciate the hug and advice.
Difficult situation. I did get 3 hours of sleep however I am going in for another 12 hour shift. No days off in sight.
But that’s better than no job.

I hope you made it through your 12 hour shift. You can’t say we alcoholics aren’t resilient and tough! We are courageous and brave people, look at the he’ll we put ourselves through and as a fellowship we can give each other a hand up. God bless Dave.

As the navy seals say “the only easy day was yesterday “.
Had to remember the same advice I give a newcomer. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Don’t give up.
I appreciate the help. Without my higher power and our aa brothers and sisters I would have been dead by now.
I’m tired, I’m stressed, I’m in debt, but I am sober and telling you all about it.
    Very grateful.

My home group now has a few regular dry drunks. These are the same people that helped me when I needed some direction.. Complainers, moaning over political stuff, and cussing. Oh how I am against profanity in AA.. What happened??!! I counted on these folks weekly now I can’t stand them. My sponser says find another meeting.
