Life on Life’s terms

January 3, 2016 by Kayce L.

Dealing with life sober is a very hard thing to do at first. A year ago my 21 year old nephew died of an overdose. It was painful to see all the young people who loved him morn over his casket. I just wanna shake them all and tell them how this disease is the devil. I dealt with my disbelief and pain through the program. It’s such a hard thing for our young family and friends to see the forever damage of drugs and alcohol. Today I’m grateful I live in a more peaceful, controlled life and it’s all due to the 12 steps and great sponsor also the knowledge of this disease I have. Keep it simple. One day at a time.

Thank you for this… About 5years ago my children’s father was shot over a bad drug deal, then eight months after my second children’s father drank himself to death. I share this because I have to cope and live one day at a time as well! My sponsor tells me that keeping it simple and reliance upon a higher power when working my 12 step program is essential! I need to ask for help by praying and then “act as if” I already have what I asked for… God will take care of what we cannot, but he surely will not take care of what we can! This is a program of action! Thank you for this share I needed to be reminded…

Kayce, thanks for your post. Dealing with life sober can be hard, regardless of how much time one has in the program. I’ve got more than a few 24hours, but am back to a day at a time or less since my wife has been very sick since mid December. This is the hard part of the 3rd step: the willingness to turn my life over to the care of my Higher Power and to accept deep down inside whatever the result – Knowing that regardless of my losses, I will be Ok to the extent that I follow His will for me whatever that may be. Bless all and Happy New Year!

I had been a chronic relapse. I am alive today by God’s grace. I’ve seen good people — the young and old timers too — die of this disease in last few years. I’m blessed — three plus years sober, 70years old and in good health. Every day is a gift.

Wow, I am glad that I stumbled upon this. My condolences and prayers to the Families of those who are bereaving. I coming up on another sobriety birthday on 02/29, God willing. On 10/30/15 I took a horrific fall at work, but for the Grace Of God I am alive. My goal is to be walking on and/or before my sobriety birthday. Happy New You & Happy New Year & if no one has told you that they love u today, I love you with all that I am. Peace & blessings & by all means necessary keep going with God.
