Procrastinating in Recovery

August 3, 2015 by Kayce L.

Procrastination is a type of avoidance behavior, thought to be a mechanism for dealing with anxiety. It usually always back fires. In a procrastinators attempt to avoid stress and anxiety they are actually causing themselves more stress and anxiety than what was originally there. In over coming the tendency for procrastination is by acknowledging that it is there. As you go through your daily routines, be conscious of anytime you seem to be procrastinating. Once you realize you are doing it. Think about why you are doing it. And don’t do it. Force yourself to do whatever the task is that you are trying to avoid.

    22 days sober and on steps 6 & 7.
Procrastination is on the top of my list for character defects. It has caused me a lot of anxiety to say the least. Late bills, late taxes. I see selfishness and fear that has controlled my behavior.
Today I will work towards taking care of unfinished business and depend on God to guide me. and not go to the bottle when I begin to feel uncomfortable.

I have yet to see a person in AA who relies on a higher power, goes to meetings consistently, is current w their sponsor, has commitments, and continues to be a step working member of AA with a newcomer go back out and drink. Imagine that!!!

I’ve had the honor to experience 4 years of sobriety as
a result of following the suggestions in the book Alcoholics Anonymous
The obsession to drink or drug has been removed and there is no craving
If you’ve suffered from what I had suffered from than I would suggest a couple things
Don’t drink or drug no matter what attend a meeting a day read the big book
And ask some one for help to sponsor you
He has always been doing for us what we can not do for ourselves
