Sober Living verses Living the Program

April 27, 2015 by Kayce L.

Coming into the program we think staying sober is just not drinking or drugging. It is so much more. It’s learning to live being sober. Life on lifes terms. Dealing with our day to day without the use of alcohol or drugs. The 12 steps helps us manage our mental obsession and live life, sober.

This is where I am in my sobriety. I have been sober for 480 days. However I was drunk or stoned for 25 + yrs. I learned how to survive. I now want to thrive.

      • Mike says:

Thomas, I would love to feel the freedom I keep hearing about. Been drinking 41 years, been sober one day. Tried hundreds of times to quit but it never sticks. I’ve been studying aa and related material, started going to meetings and am trying to slow down the hurricane in my mind. Seem to be stuck on step three. I am, however, hopeful.
        This app is pretty cool!

That’s awesome Shane!! The 12 steps have given me a second chance at life!! I’ve been sober 613 days and I drank for 35 or more years … Life is worth living now and no matter what I do not have to pick up a drink!!!

  3. Jason says:

“What we really have is a daily reprieve…” I’m a newcomer every day when I wake up. I need to keep doing the things suggested by the Big Book and my sponsor to stay sober another day. The desire to drink is overwhelmed by the desire to seek and do God’s will if I recognize my powerlessness and treat it with A.A’s guidelines and principals.

  4. Shane says:

So I haven’t been to a meeting yet.How do they work?

    • Tim says:

When you go to a meeting just sit back and listen. There will be some readings at the begining and there may be some introductions.

  5. Chloeb says:

Just keep going to meetings… I went to the same place a couple times a week.. People were very welcoming and after a few times I started to venture out to a few different meetings.. I was given hope by those people… I am one of those people.. A recovering alcoholic that does not drink just for today…it’s a miracle really and you too will find the miracle…
