Admitting Step 1

April 19, 2015 by Kayce L.

In the First Step of Recovery, we need to focus on honesty, open-mindedness, willingness, humility, and acceptance. The First Step starts with admitting the truth about our addiction, and continues with the practice of honesty on a daily basis. When we say “I’m an alcoholic or addict” and “my life is unmanageable” in a meeting, it may be the first truly honest thing we’ve said in a long time.

Tough step to achieve and Step 1 for me has pulled me out many days of self pity. After opening up and allowing others into my life the possibilities changed. I finally had the self confidence to make it, a new view at how life could be if I just let it. Enough was enough.

          Thomas,

I don’t see my beautiful little angel for a week at a time. She’s 3 and lives with her mum. What I’ve learnt is acceptance. Acceptance of the things I cannot change…. Acceptance of the pain I feel because I miss her.
Then I get busy in healthy distractions these days as best I can. I feel lonely, sad and full of self pity at times but acceptance.
          I meditate then I pray

As a dad to a dad enjoy each moment you have with your daughter because they grow up fast love her and kiss her tell her you love each day ok.!!!!!

          • Drewe says:

            Bless you Thomas…..
I really do…. We do our little prayers together and she has the serenity prayer off by heart. I guess the greatest gift I can give her is me being present… In the room….. My unconscious way of living, completely stuck in my mind and it’s fear driven ways led to all of my addictive releases
