Living in our Recovery

April 13, 2015 by Kayce L.

As we begin “doing the right thing for the right reason,” we can detect a change in ourselves. Where once we were ruled by self-will, now we are guided by our goodwill for others. The chronic self-centeredness of addiction is losing its hold on us. We are learning to “practice these principles in all our affairs”; we are living in our recovery, not in our disease.

Thank you for this post. I need to remember that if I put others first right after my higher power whom I call God, then I can stay out of myself and maintain my serenity. If I do the right thing for the right reason then I am thinking of what God wants me to do an of others. If I do the right thing for the wrong reason then I find myself back into self centered behavior and begin to lose my peace and serenity. God first, others next and me last. When I get those out of order I know that fear and resentments are on their way. Thank you for posting on this app and helping me stay sober one more day!

i just discovered this program or app. It is wonderful!! My freedom from alcohol began Feb 12015. I an 95 days sober. It has been a mind boggling few months. But, I’m winning. My higher Power which is my Heavenly Father has always been good, but in my Sobriety…. I am amazed at the live he has given me! I’m free, I’m grateful, in living life on life’s terms and doing things I’ve NEVER done. I pray every evening for my sisters And brothers in Recovery!!!! God grant us the Serenity to know the things I cannot change. The Courage to know the thugs I can. And the Wisdom to know the difference! God’s blessings on us all!

im 42 days sober from a 30 year drinking career in and out of AA
I find it real uncomfortable to work with a sponsor
I know God is for me I read his word and pray every nite and day now my mind is not drugged
My husband is tired of this merry go round and has little faith in me and is already planning a big drinking putting
I need support in a huge way
Help I’m scared of relapse I go to meetings every day
    But I feel stuck

    • James Luckey says:

Recovery is uncomfortable in the beginning. Half measures availed us nothing. Took me along time to buy into the program completely. Sponsorship is so vitally important. Meetings are awesome and necessary, however, the 1 on 1 received between 2 alcoholics is such a spiritual experience. Gods truth comes down between the two and that’s where the work really begins. Make the commitment to works with a sponsor and pray for God to bring into your life the right one and you will find freedom and answers. Anyone can find recovery anywhere, job, no job, relationship, no relationship. Your example of recovery will show your husband a new Life. Trust God, clean house, work with others! JL

Dear Pam u must pray find ur inner peace the program works God is good because I am 3 years and 11 months I will pray for u everyday enjoy ur recovery ok.!!!!!!

    • Alice M says:

Welcome Pam, I too had difficulty asking someone to read the book with me but am so grateful that I did. This is a “We” program. In the rooms I listened to women share and found someone who was living a life of recovery that I wanted. Freedom from bondage to alcohol became more important than my pride.
